Superstition has its Moments

When starting in the art of tarot, you find that there are a number of myths and folk lore that surround this art form. Being a Maori woman, we have countless number of superstitious beliefs - beliefs that expand our horizons and imagination. So, there is an understanding of limits and customs when it comes to Taroism to be weary of.
Tarot cards didn't initially begin as divination instruments. Its out of this world to believe that they began as playing cards in Italy from the 1400's. But how they came to be for divination use was out of pure coincidence. It is said that after playing this particular card game, things started happening that would be the result of what occured during the card game itself. Of course, those times would eventually see this game as witchcraft or something to fear.
Whoever created this card game must have been very wise to have created something that coincidentally associates with universal elements. So lets begin!!
I want to address a few things I have picked up while practicing Taroism. Folk lore? Maybe. Mythology? Maybe. It all connects one way or another depending on how you perceive things.

Being Gifted your first Tarot Deck: Now, there has been countless talk of this particular subject. For some, it is imperative that when initiating your intentions of becoming a Tarot reader, that your first Tarot Deck is gifted rather than brought by your own choosing. I use to wonder why this was. Is there a specific reason for this? Does it mean anything of importance?
Fortunately, I was gifted my first Tarot Deck from my Partner as a Christmas gift. While on this spiritual journey, learning about Tarot, I picked up a few theories in connection to this very myth.
When you study the energy around Tarot reading or any spiritual aspect at all, you gain insight beyond your typical perception - the enlightenment needed to truly understand why things are the way they are.
Many Tarot readers before me have their own beliefs on why its important to have your first Tarot Deck gifted to you. One particular notion was that Tarot was once a Teaching Tool - yes they had schools for Tarot Reading. As a gift for the students, they would gift them a set of Tarot as part of their program. This became an essential part of Tarot development the more it became popularized.
One account is inspired by a more humane concept. Much like trademarking, this action to gift Tarot cards became a rumor to protect up and coming Tarot businesses. Tarot readers were afraid that after giving an accurate reading that the querent (client) would feel inspired to purchase Tarot cards for themselves which no longer would need the assistance of other Tarot readers, therefore losing business altogether.
There is also a divine aspect to this notion; being gifted your first deck would signify that the set gifted is meant specifically for the future lightworker.
If there was a way I could put it, I would definitely say; by placing you in the path of receiving, this is Divines special way of guiding you on your pathway to true divine purpose. Receiving the Tarot gift would have cemented that belief to becoming a lightworker.

Reading for yourself: One popular lore that you learn about while on your Tarot journey is whether or not you should read for yourself or not. I have watched many videos that would address this so called issue.
For some readers, they prefer not to read for themselves. In some way, shape or form, I do believe that reading for yourself shouldn't be a "frequent thing". It is not a bad thing to seek some sort of validation or insight for yourself if it means that it aligns with your higher self. But to read for selfish reasons, or for self-gain means to go against the divines intentions for you and your purpose as a lightworker. One dead giveaway for when you give yourself a reading is your ego. This is one reason why readers don't prefer to read for someone very close to you or for yourself. Ego tends to make a rude appearances during readings. When ego appears while doing your own reading, that is Divines way of letting you know that you have either gone too far or the answers you seek may be of an illusional nature. I personally had my fair share of ego driven readings on myself, I'm not going to lie about it.  Of course, I found this out in my early stages of practicing Tarot. Without experience, there is no lesson.
Something to remember when delivering a self reading is when Divine have messages for you, it would be a message that you will resonate with and understand with pure clarity.

Tarot is the devils work: It is very understandable for society to deem Tarot as a Devils tool. Back when it became popularized as a simple card game, it was feared. The spontaneous coincidences that occurred following the card game transformed into "the work of the devil". Before connecting with Tarot, I would have also been a percentage of that society who would have deemed this tool as the devils work. However, that was never meant to be.
Since being on this journey, I have had my fair share of unpleasant comments in regards to Tarot Reading such as "don't believe this crap, she's a Satan worshipper" or the cliché "You need to find God. This is the Devils doing" and the most popular comment "your a fake! Jesus is King". Many of these comments come from religious driven folk. Many who worship their God and no other.
Fear of the unknown is the lead culprit within those who do not believe in what the Tarot cards hold. More importantly, its the power of the messages that come through which is frightening.
All throughout the Bible it refers to Tarot readers, Mediums, Sorcerors and fortune tellers as abominations because the Bible should be the only source of divine enlightenment on Earth.  All who do practice is believed to be of the Devil and not of God Himself therefore should be cast away from God and his people. These statements brings light to why religion doesn't accept this practice. Therefore if it is not of God than it is of Satan.
Another notion is that noone in this world should be told of their future as God has put them on their own path and destiny needs to be unraveled in natural order.
As a Tarot reader I do not dismiss these notions as we all have our own beliefs in one way shape or form. I can see how difficult it would be to believe outside of what you know to be true. I am not here to justify these rulings but only to shed some light on this subject.

No to Pregnancy Readings: If you are a Tarot binger and you watch a fair amount of readings via Youtube, Tiktok or Instagram, you will notice that many Psychic Readers will not read Pregnancy. Why is this?
The more I learn about Tarot, the more I understand why some things are left taboo to talk about. Yes! there are limits to reading - and Pregnancy is one of them. I definitely know that there are readers who only focus on Pregnancy readings and like I said earlier - each to their own.
I noticed that there is a difference between asking about pregnancy and the messages about pregnancy coming out in readings not focused on pregnancy itself.
When a querent (client)request a reading that is pregnancy based, its not hard to know that the answer is generally a 'NO'. Unless that is a message the divine would like to share with you, reading pregnancy comes with a price. Just like the belief of our religious families, pregnancy has its own natural order of life. We are talking about bringing life into the world. As a reader, we are stepping over the divine boundaries when we tell people when they are going to conceive, have a baby, the gender and whether or not the baby is healthy. As a believer of God and the divine, I respect that the process of conception and birth occur in divine timing - only God can choose this destiny.
You may ask, does this go against light working or are you just contradicting what you have just said?
My answer is - the divine gave me my purpose which is to bring light to others through Tarot Reading. I would hope that anything to do with pregnancy and health that this be talked to by a professional health advisor. We can not intervene in this process as this is not our realm to do so.

I personally think that without superstitious beliefs connected, we will not have barriers and limits to protect us. The divine have their way of showing us our pathways and they have their way of letting us know what is right and what is wrong. Tarot definitely has their fair share of superstition, but it is the understanding of why that is the most important part.
